Companion care and memory enrichment are provided foR:

  • persons living alone

  • in a care home

  • at home with a caregiver/loved one


What is Person-Centered Companionship?

o   Respect for the individual’s values, preferences and expressed needs

o   Emotional support to relieve stress, fear and anxiety

o   Involvement of family and friends

o   Continuity

o   Coordination of care

Companion Services Provided:

  • Fun and uplifting time together, with smiles and laughter

  • Local outings:

    • Grocery shopping, errands

    • Attend activities, groups, events together

    • Meals in restaurants

    • Appointments

    • Walks

  • Light cleaning and cooking together

  • Validation, encouragement, empathy and active listening

  • Companion services at the bedside during a hospital or nursing home stay to reduce stress, loneliness, and confusion patients may experience

  • Involving and liaising with the person living with dementia, their family, and carers, to communicate concerns and explain procedures

  • Modeling a person-centered, strengths-based approach to promote a shift in care (from a deficit-based mindset and task-centered care)

  • Regular updates to family members and/or carers

Memory Enrichment Services Provided:

  • Creative Therapy Programs:

    • Expressive Arts - painting, drawing, poetry, art appreciation, collage, crafting…

    • Music

    • Movement

    • Sensory (5 senses)

  • Active thinking: Puzzles, games, reading activities

  • Time in nature

  • Reminiscence
